Discworld Read-Along #4: Mort
Today, we’re discussing the fourth Discworld book—hey, we’re about ten percent of the way there already—entitled Mort, in which the titular character is taken on as an apprentice of Death himself. Yes, the same Death we came to love and appreciate during cameos in the prior books. There’s so much to discuss here, so let’s get into it! As a note, if you have not yet read Mort, there will be spoilers in this post, so tread with caution.
Ten GOOD Reasons Why Audiobooks DON'T Count as Reading
Today, I’m going to hit you with ten reasons audiobooks don’t count as reading. That’s right, we’re doing this. I don’t want to delay it, so let’s dive into it right now.
Rearranging My Shelves for Autumn
It’s time to have a casual chat and a simple bookshelf rearrangement again! It’s been quite a while since I last did my bookshelf rearrangement, which was for my summer colors. Now, I’m looking at a more autumnal vibe. I’m thinking purples, oranges, and browns. But don’t worry, this isn’t just a post about rearranging my shelves. I will use this time to chat casually about things I’m doing and a few upcoming projects. This is meant to be a little cozier than the usual content I put out there, so grab some tea or whatever else you drink and let’s get started.
Does Reading Before Bed Help You Sleep?
This is a question that I’ve asked myself a few times in the past: will reading before bed help me sleep? I find it hard to wind down after a long day of work, especially because I work an overnight shift and my job entails sitting at a computer for at least eight hours straight. Going right from staring at a computer screen to trying to sleep while the sun is up can be a real challenge that results in my lying there awake for hours at a time. This was actually part of a different experiment I did in which I read every day for a week straight, the video for which is on my YouTube channel.
Organize Your TBR!
Today, I’m going to talk not about what’s on my reading list, but about how I organize my reading list to make sure that I don’t just read what I want to, but that I read often and don’t get burned out from reading, which is something that I’ve experienced in the past on a few occasions. In some cases, a reading burnout has led to months or even years of me not reading (and is a big part of why I think that most lists of required reading for literature classes are dreadful and poorly optimized, at least from what I’ve both experienced and heard). So, how do I organize my reading list to make sure that I’m getting the most out of my experience? Let’s get into it!
Read More Gooder and Also Fast
Today, I want to talk specifically about reading books and how I manage to read as much as I do. I used to read a lot and have been getting back into the swing of it, which I’ve found to be a bit easier than I originally thought. In the first month of 2022, I read about 500,000 words, or a little over 100,000 words a week. I used to read even more than that! So, in today’s post, I’m going to talk about what works for me in this regard. Hopefully, you’ll be able to pull something from one or all of these tips!
